A Word from DeSoto's Mayor Curtistene McCowan

DeSoto, TX - DeSoto Family and Friends, I want you to know that I am encouraged daily by the determination of our council, administration, staff and community leaders to work together to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kudos to the DeSoto Economic Development Corporation, The Industry Hub, DeSoto Chamber of Commerce and Small Business Administration for their assistance and support of the business community. We are laser-focused on keeping our citizens and those visiting our city safe and on the economic recovery of our great city. It is truly a team effort.mayor photo

Please join me in expressing our sincere appreciation to the DeSoto Pastors Coalition. This year’s National Day of Prayer was brought to you virtually, and it was another powerful evening of worship and praise along with an exciting service project. They raised $9,000, benefiting food banks in DeSoto.

Special thanks to Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins and Dallas County Medical Director Phil Huang for addressing DeSoto citizens in a Town Hall Meeting the city hosted earlier this week. Based on the number of positive COVID cases in our city, I have strongly advocated to have a testing site in DeSoto. Why? Because it is only through testing and contact tracing that we will flatten the curve and eradicate this serious disease from our community. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Dallas County for working with us and Walmart to bring a mobile testing site to DeSoto, and this site opened today.

Finally, I need to share with you that the DeSoto Economic Recovery Advisory Task Force is hard at work to help our city overcome the setbacks caused by COVID-19. We realize recovery will not happen overnight, but we know the resilience of the amazing stakeholders we’re blessed to have in this city and everyone doing their part will yield the positive results we are determined to achieve.

May God Bless you, and may God bless the All-America City of DeSoto!

Curtistene McCowan, Mayor DeSoto, TX
