Midlothian, TX - The ground is cleared and work is underway for Midlothian’s newest retail development, McCoy’s Building Supply. Construction will take place over the next eight months with an opening planned for December.
Frank McCoy founded McCoy’s Building Supply in 1927 as a roofing company. In its 90 years of operation, the building-supply retailer has grown to 87 stores across in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Mississippi, and Arkansas. The Midlothian store will be McCoy’s 88th location.
Jessica Walshak, marketing manager, stated the McCoy’s real estate team looked at multiple markets and felt that Midlothian was a fast growing community with a demand for this type of store, which serves homebuilders, remodelers, and do-it-yourselfers.
“McCoy’s is focused on the entire shopping experience, which means having the products that our customers need, having everything conveniently laid out, and having a team of folks ready to help,” Walshak said. “Our drive-thru lumberyard is designed, so customers don’t have to load their vehicle up at the store – our yard crew will load you up.”
The store is on the corner of Walnut Grove Road and U.S. Highway 287. The building features energy efficient LED lighting and air-conditioning systems. The outside of the building will be composed of stucco and brick with a double entrance at the front. There will be standing metal canopies with athi contrasting earth tone color schemes along the exterior.
Midlothian Planning Director Trenton Robertson stated McCoy’s would add to what the city has to offer residents.
“This site will add beneficial development to the City of Midlothian as a whole,” Trenton said. “The site proposed will consist of a sales building, associated parking, attached warehouse, rack supported canopies as well as a lumberyard storage area.”
Walshak shared customers can expect an attentive and helpful staff when they visit the store.
“McCoy’s doesn’t just want to be a material supplier, but considered a partner in projects you’re working on,” Walshak explained. “We aim to have employees who are also do-it-yourselfers who’ve tackled a variety of projects on their own and hopefully will be able to answer a customer’s question with a bit of firsthand knowledge.”
Some of the products that McCoy’s has to offer includes lumber, paint, doors, windows, roofing materials, power tools and farm and ranch products such as gates, fencing, and cattle chutes. The store will also carry STIHL power tools and have a STIHL technician on-site to assist customers with parts and maintenance questions.
Walshak estimated that there would be 15 part-time and 25 full-time employees hired to staff the store.
The soft opening is in December. A week a grand opening festivities will take place during the first quarter of 2019. When opened, the store will operate Monday – Saturday with hours undetermined as of press time.
