Midlothian lands another employer with Utah bedding firm shipping hub

Midlothian, TX - The loss of nationwide retailer Toys R Us has turned out to be another win for the town of Midlothian, southwest of Dallas.  The former Toys R Us distribution center just south of Midlothian has been purchased Malouf Bedding, a Utah-based linens and bedding firm.

The 836,561-square-foot industrial building is at 3800 Railport Parkway - in the same area where digital giant Google is planning a huge new data center.

"The Dallas-Fort Worth industrial market continues to be within the top two markets in the country so it took the bankruptcy of Toys R Us to find a property that matched the value play we were looking for," Lee & Associates' Trey Fricke said in a statement.

Fricke and Lee & Associates' Reid Bassinger represented Malouf Bedding in its hunt for a new distribution hub.

Toys R Us announced in in March that all of its stores and distribution centers would close.

Malouf Bedding is based in Logan, Utah where it has a 180,000 square foot warehouse.

The company has been in business since 2004 and has showrooms in Nevada, Mississippi, New York and North Carolina.

In March the company bough an Ohio warehouse with more than 1 million square feet.

The Malouf Bedding distribution center is the latest economic boost for Midlothian.

Along with the planned Google data center,  Methodist Health System plans to build a 190,000 square foot full-service acute care hospital and a 45,000 square foot medical office building west of U.S. 287.

With a population of about 25,000 Midlothian's economy has previously been driven by industrial users including cement producers and railroads.
