Dallas, TX - The DeSoto Chamber of Commerce is proud to share some big news for the Best Southwest Region from Methodist Charlton Medical Center and the Methodist Health System overall. Early next calendar year, Methodist Charlton plans to break ground on a major three-story expansion to house the facility’s brand new Emergency Department!

Please join the Chamber in expressing our appreciation to the Methodist Health System Board, CEO Jim Scoggins and his team for this major charltoninvestment in the Region. The new Emergency Department will be located at Wheatland Road and Bolton Boone Drive and will occupy the entire 40,000 square feet of the structure’s first floor. It will be nearly double the size of the current Emergency Department, increasing from 45 to 70 patient rooms.

The Emergency Department will have larger waiting areas, so they can more efficiently and comfortably seat and triage patients. It will have more trauma rooms, expanded ambulance bays, specially designed safer rooms for our patients requiring psychiatric care, and a new CT scanner and imaging equipment. The floor below the Emergency Department will be for parking while the second floor will house shell space for future expansion. The building is designed to expand by at least four more floors. Since many of Methodist Charlton's patients enter through and are admitted through the Emergency Department, the hospital expects this to have an even more positive impact on patient satisfaction.

Please join the Chamber in congratulating Methodist Charlton President, Fran Laukaitis as well as Methodist Charlton Advisory Board Chair, DeSoto Mayor Curtistine McCowan, on this momentous capital improvement project. This $71 million expansion is possible because of the hard work, successes, and dedication of the team and the unwavering commitment by Methodist Health System to continue its 92-year-old legacy of service to southern Dallas County. Groundbreaking for the new Emergency Department should occur in early 2021, with an expected opening in summer 2022.
