Glenn Heights, TX – Friday, June 16, 2017, the City of Glenn Heights announces City Manager, Aretha Renee Ferrell-Benavides will resign effective July 6, 2017. She tendered her Letter of Resignation to Mayor Leon P. Tate on June 6, 2017.
She has accepted the position of City Manager for the City of Petersburg, Virginia.
In July 2015, Aretha Ferrell-Benavides was unanimously appointed City Manager of the City of Glenn Heights, after serving as the Deputy City Manager.
At the City Council Meeting on June 20, 2017, the Council will formally accept her resignation. Also, the governing body will consider appointing Deputy City Manager, David A. Hall as Interim City Manager. Mayor Tate stated, “the search for a permanent City Manager will begin in July 2017”.
Mayor Tate issued this statement, “We thank Mrs. Ferrell-Benavides for her commitment to our city, citizens, and staff. She is a talented and gifted leader with unmatched skills of a veteran City Manager. Our City has grown tremendously under her acute leadership. The entire City Council wishes her and her family the very best in her next professional chapter as a City Manager”.
The City of Glenn Heights, Texas was founded September 16, 1969, and is located along I-35 East. It is a hospitable, business-friendly, rapidly growing community divided between Dallas and Ellis counties. The City has a total area of 7.2 square miles and has approximately 13,000 residents.
