Waxahachie, TX - Over the last decade, The Navarro College Brilliance Scholarship Fundraising Program has financially assisted over 1,140 talented Ellis County students.
This year’s 10th Annual Brilliance Gala will be held from 6—9 p.m. April 7 at the Waxahachie Civic Center and aims to raise another large portion to fund scholarships for Ellis County students.
Dr. Kenneth Martin, President of the Ellis County Campuses, thanked the Waxahachie Rotary Club and other organizations for their continued support of the Brilliance Scholarship Fundraising Program. Last year, nearly $190,000 were raised for scholarships.
“These funds have assisted some of the brightest students that might not have had the financial ability to attain higher education. In the last ten years, over 1,140 students have received Brilliance Scholarships,” Martin said.
Many of the students went on to complete further degrees at prestigious universities such as Yale, Cornell, Texas A&M, Baylor, Tarleton State University and Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Navarro is also well-known for its collaborations with local high schools to give students the opportunity to earn dual credits. The largest number of these students comes from the partnership with Global High School.
“In the history of the dual-credit program, we have even seen 120 students earn their Associates Degree before earning their High School diploma,” Martin noted.
Nicole Dickerson, a current Navarro College student and a recipient of the Brilliance Scholarship, reiterated how important the program is to students and the importance of community support.
“Because of this scholarship you all support, I have become the first in my family to get a higher education, and I am a positive role model for the younger generations,” she said.
The Dallas String Quartet will provide entertainment for the 2018 Brilliance Gala, and live auction packed with attractive packages will be available for guests to bid.
