Waxahachie, TX - An Ellis County jury found a 34-year-old Ennis man guilty Friday of choking a woman until she passed out last March. David Allen Kemp waived any appeal related to the case herd in the 40th District Court of Ellis County
and accepted his 25-year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division.
According to a press release issued by the Ellis County and District Attorney’s Office, Kemp was in a romantic relationship with the victim when he “grabbed her hair on the back of her head with one hand and put his other hand across her throat choking her causing her to lose consciousness.”
“Kemp choked the victim so the children in the next room could not hear her scream,” the release added of the incident that occurred March 10, 2017. “At the time of the event, deputies from the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office observed red marks on the victim’s neck.”
Kemp, who has prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance, evading arrest and the unlawful carrying of a weapon, was recorded on the jail telephone attempting to manipulate the victim into denying the events.
Prosecutors Habon Mohamed and Russell Jones thanked the jurors for their service.
