Waxahachie Police officer injured after being struck by vehicle in pursuit

Waxahachie, TX - A Waxahachie Police officer was struck by a vehicle after a pursuit lead into the city Saturday night. The officer is alive but injured from the impact.

The incident occurred after Italy Police officers began assisting Waxahachie Police in a vehicle pursuit through Italy around 8:30 p.m. The pursuit circled back around to Waxahachie before the suspect’s vehicle struck the officer in the street mid-pursuit.

“He was trying to lay out spike strips,” Waxahachie Police Lt. Marcus Brown stated. “We were so concerned about our officer.”

Ellis County Sheriff Chuck Edge confirmed in a Facebook post that the officer was transported to the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie for treatment. Brown confirmed that the officer was still injured, but was well enough to be excused from the hospital at around 10:30 p.m.

“We’re just thankful that he’s okay,” Brown stated.

Waxahachie Police could not confirm whether the suspect was apprehended after striking the officer or not. This story will be updated once more details are made available.
